This morning while looking at the Manage Your Kindle page, I noticed something new, something wacky, exciting, and awesome.
If you are one of the lucky ones to own a Kindle with Special Offers, you know that you paid a little less at the time of purchase for your Kindle, and in return have been rewarded with Sponsored Screensavers and Special Offers.
Now, you can add Special Offers to your Kindle, Free! So far there has been no Press Release from Amazon about this, but I was able to find the official Amazon Help page for Special Offers on Your Kindle. Thank you Google!
Here is How to Add Special Offers
Step 1: Go the MYK page: http://www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle
Step 2: Look on the left side of the page, and click Manage Your Devices
Step 3: View the Special Offers column next to your Kindle, and click “edit” to change from Unsubscribed to Subscribed
When I added the Special Offers to my Kindle Keyboard 3G, they appeared within just a few seconds. You may find you need to turn your wireless off and back on again, or toggle the sleep switch to give your Kindle a short nap.
I also tested unsubscribing, which was just as quick and easy. Since I paid full price for my Kindle, there is no fee to unsubscribe. I really do want the deals, so I then also resubscribed and presto, the offers reappeared again. You can basically subscribe and unsubscribe at will. How awesome!
Which Kindle is Eligible?
Special Offers are available on Kindle Keyboard, Kindle Keyboard 3G, Kindle, Kindle Touch, and Kindle Touch 3G.
If you have been curious about the offers, this is the perfect way to give it a try. After you have enabled the Offers, you can find them by going to Menu, View Special Offers.

Well, since the special offers helped subsidize the cost of the kindles that CAME with special offers, therefore lowering the price, I don’t think I can do it unless I get a $40 refund on my kindle…I haven’t seen one special offer that I can’t live without, or that I can’t get anyhow with promo codes or online coupons.
I agree. Why would you buy a Kindle without the ads and pay more, then add the special deals? I bought my Kindle with the special offers and got a discount.
It’s very simple. Some who owned Kindles prior to the introduction of Kindles with Special Offers happen to like the idea. I had mine way before the introduction of the offers. I decided that the ads were a good idea, especially since I am not in love with the screensavers. I wanted the option of adding the offers to mine. I mentioned it to Customer Service months ago. I’m glad they finally did it.
I bought a refurbished Kindle that didn’t have any “special offers” for 99$. I’d like to take advantage of some of the offers… and it’s not like I can’t turn them off again if I get tired of them, because I did purchase a non-SO Kindle.

I have a 2nd generation Kindle and when I click on Manage Your Devices I see no Special Offers next to my Kindle. Is it not for 2nd Generation Kindle?
I have a 2nd generation also, and am not seeing it either.
Why would I want to add a feature like that? I just bought the touch with special offers, and guess what? I may pay the 40 bucks to remove them. I love the Kindle though.

Right! I got a gorgeous leather cover at half off with free shipping through special offers! They are easy to ignore if there’s nothing you want… just a screen saver.

This is for those of us who bought our kindles before special offers was available. We already had paid the full price. Now we can choose to see those bargains if we want to.

You can’t do this unless you have a kindle with special offers. I turned mine on and it didn’t work so I chatted with a kindle support person and was told you can’t do this without a kindle with special offers.

I am not seeing this. I have 2nd generation kindle… Does it work on that?
How do you know if your Kindle is the right one? Mine says "Version: Kindle 3.3", is it one that the free special offers will work with?

Yes, currently Special Offers are only available in the United States. Hopefully they will be available internationally soon!

I don't know what you are looking at because all went well until I got to step 3 and there was no "View the Special Offers" anywhere…
If you have no Special Offers column on the MYK page, then you may not have a Kindle that is eligible. The list of eligible models is listed in the post above.
I guess the orignial kindle is too old? I went to the MYK page, clicked on manage your divices and there is no special offers on the page.
FYI, this is not an option for 2nd generation.
