Add Special Offers to Your Kindle – Free!

KindleThis morning while looking at the Manage Your Kindle page, I noticed something new, something wacky, exciting, and awesome.

If you are one of the lucky ones to own a Kindle with Special Offers, you know that you paid a little less at the time of purchase for your Kindle, and in return have been rewarded with Sponsored Screensavers and Special Offers.

Now, you can add  Special Offers to your Kindle, Free!  So far there has been no Press Release from Amazon about this, but I was able to find the official Amazon Help page for Special Offers on Your Kindle. Thank you Google!

Here is How to Add Special Offers

Step 1: Go the MYK page:
Step 2: Look on the left side of the page, and click Manage Your Devices
Step 3: View the Special Offers column next to your Kindle, and click “edit” to change from Unsubscribed to Subscribed

When I added the Special Offers to my Kindle Keyboard 3G, they appeared within just a few seconds. You may find you need to turn your wireless off and back on again, or toggle the sleep switch to give your Kindle a short nap.

I also tested unsubscribing, which was just as quick and easy. Since I paid full price for my Kindle, there is no fee to unsubscribe. I really do want the deals, so I then also resubscribed and presto, the offers reappeared again. You can basically subscribe and unsubscribe at will. How awesome!

Which Kindle is Eligible?

Special Offers are available on Kindle Keyboard, Kindle Keyboard 3G, Kindle, Kindle Touch, and Kindle Touch 3G.

If you have been curious about the offers, this is the perfect way to give it a try. After you have enabled the Offers, you can find them by going to Menu, View Special Offers.

Awesome! Thanks for the tip. I’m loving Pixel of Ink, keep up the GREAT work!

Kim November 18, 2011 at 6:57 pm

Does this work with the Kindle Fire as well ?

Shane November 18, 2011 at 9:23 pm

Yep, I was wondering if this works for Kindle Fire too. I just got my new Kindle Fire today, and having a blast with it.

Kama Ogden November 18, 2011 at 6:58 pm

Can you explain why we would want to do it?

Gina November 18, 2011 at 7:02 pm

The special offers give you discounts on ebooks and other things for sale at Amazon.

Alisa November 18, 2011 at 6:59 pm

Awesome!! Thanks for the info!

Jesse Jones November 18, 2011 at 7:03 pm

What a great feature. Thank you for the heads up!

chrissie russo November 18, 2011 at 7:10 pm

Well, since the special offers helped subsidize the cost of the kindles that CAME with special offers, therefore lowering the price, I don’t think I can do it unless I get a $40 refund on my kindle…I haven’t seen one special offer that I can’t live without, or that I can’t get anyhow with promo codes or online coupons.

Berni Peters November 18, 2011 at 9:41 pm

I agree. Why would you buy a Kindle without the ads and pay more, then add the special deals? I bought my Kindle with the special offers and got a discount.

Linda Barta November 18, 2011 at 11:27 pm

It’s very simple. Some who owned Kindles prior to the introduction of Kindles with Special Offers happen to like the idea. I had mine way before the introduction of the offers. I decided that the ads were a good idea, especially since I am not in love with the screensavers. I wanted the option of adding the offers to mine. I mentioned it to Customer Service months ago. I’m glad they finally did it.

Kandace November 18, 2011 at 11:58 pm

I bought a refurbished Kindle that didn’t have any “special offers” for 99$. I’d like to take advantage of some of the offers… and it’s not like I can’t turn them off again if I get tired of them, because I did purchase a non-SO Kindle. :)

Teri November 18, 2011 at 7:11 pm

Love it! Thank you I would have never known otherwise!

Janine Nyborg November 18, 2011 at 7:14 pm

I’m curious how this will work for those of us who hacked our Kindles for our own screensavers. Will it revert to my personal screensavers if I unsubscribe again?

Robin Taylor November 18, 2011 at 7:36 pm

I think I might like this. Thanks.

Kathy November 18, 2011 at 7:42 pm

I have a 2nd generation Kindle and when I click on Manage Your Devices I see no Special Offers next to my Kindle. Is it not for 2nd Generation Kindle?

Adam November 18, 2011 at 9:04 pm

I have a 2nd generation also, and am not seeing it either.

Fred Nunes November 18, 2011 at 7:43 pm

Why would I want to add a feature like that? I just bought the touch with special offers, and guess what? I may pay the 40 bucks to remove them. I love the Kindle though.

Kandace November 18, 2011 at 11:58 pm

Short answer: The deals. :)

Sheryl November 19, 2011 at 5:44 am

Right! I got a gorgeous leather cover at half off with free shipping through special offers! They are easy to ignore if there’s nothing you want… just a screen saver.

Barbara November 18, 2011 at 8:00 pm

Darn, my Kindle isn’t eligible for this..:(

Ruth November 18, 2011 at 8:01 pm

Sweet….Sure worth watching for the good deals! TY

Stephanie November 18, 2011 at 8:01 pm

Thank you!!!!

Tara C November 18, 2011 at 8:12 pm

Thanks so much! I am getting my daughter a Kindle Keyboard with Special Offers, but now I can add my own sooner! Hopefully I’ll get a great offer that JUST might help me get that Kindle for a cheaper price. Thanks for the great tip!

Sindee November 18, 2011 at 8:45 pm

Just got my Kindle subscribed so I’m excited to see what’s the deal.

ChristiS November 18, 2011 at 9:27 pm

Thanks so much!!

Katie November 19, 2011 at 8:02 am

This is for those of us who bought our kindles before special offers was available. We already had paid the full price. Now we can choose to see those bargains if we want to.

Pattie November 19, 2011 at 1:45 pm

Thanks! I’m glad to know I can turn them on and off and on again if I choose.

penny November 19, 2011 at 4:51 pm

You can’t do this unless you have a kindle with special offers. I turned mine on and it didn’t work so I chatted with a kindle support person and was told you can’t do this without a kindle with special offers.

Donna Fleischer November 20, 2011 at 5:27 am

Thanks for the tip.

Billie Mills November 20, 2011 at 7:50 am

Thanks for the heads up! I was kinda regretting not getting the Special Offers kindle and now I can try it and see what it's all about.

Kelly Brownell November 22, 2011 at 1:02 am

I paid full price for Kindle 2 $379. What up w/dat?

Nancy Tommy Jones November 22, 2011 at 1:03 am

I want I want please and thanks.

Nancy Tommy Jones November 22, 2011 at 1:04 am

I was wanting to see what it was about.

Melissa Bentley-Goff November 22, 2011 at 1:09 am

Awesome…I never remember to check my other Kindle for these offers…so this is great!

Robert Lefebvre November 22, 2011 at 1:18 am

I checked it out. It does work. The best part is you can turn it off whenever you want by going back to the manage my kindle page.

Jodie Vance McClellan November 22, 2011 at 1:32 am

Thank you! Got it subscribed!

Jowella Inzinna November 22, 2011 at 1:42 am

okay I have a k2 and can't find it on my manage page.

Elizabeth House November 22, 2011 at 1:42 am

I am not seeing this. I have 2nd generation kindle… Does it work on that?

Ann Melo November 22, 2011 at 1:44 am

How do you know if your Kindle is the right one? Mine says "Version: Kindle 3.3", is it one that the free special offers will work with?

Marianne Edison November 22, 2011 at 1:53 am

I don't see it. Is it possible it will only work on American Kindle owners?

Pixel of Ink November 22, 2011 at 6:30 pm

Yes, currently Special Offers are only available in the United States. Hopefully they will be available internationally soon!

Robin Novotny November 22, 2011 at 2:00 am

Thanks for the heads up!

Larry Hummer November 22, 2011 at 4:17 am

I like it a lot because I don't have to check out the dead poet's society-they get really boring- I just wish you could customize the screensavers!

Trixie Ann Weddig November 22, 2011 at 4:53 am

omg this is awesome I have benn wanting this forever!

Stacy Sousa November 22, 2011 at 6:59 am

Why do they never offer the good stuff for the DX?

Kelsey Raposa November 22, 2011 at 11:08 am

I like having the option.

Kathy Baluch November 22, 2011 at 1:36 pm

Joan Vroegop November 22, 2011 at 3:14 pm

Worked for me, thanks…just wish it would go away from my screen once I've viewed the offer.

Matt Erwin November 22, 2011 at 5:05 pm

Can't seem to do this on 1st generation.

Fred Goslin November 22, 2011 at 6:24 pm

I don't know what you are looking at because all went well until I got to step 3 and there was no "View the Special Offers" anywhere…

Pixel of Ink November 22, 2011 at 6:32 pm

If you have no Special Offers column on the MYK page, then you may not have a Kindle that is eligible. The list of eligible models is listed in the post above.

Sherry Ebey November 22, 2011 at 8:17 pm

I guess the orignial kindle is too old? I went to the MYK page, clicked on manage your divices and there is no special offers on the page. :(

Keri Clements November 22, 2011 at 8:44 pm

FYI, this is not an option for 2nd generation.

Tara Behrmann November 22, 2011 at 8:54 pm
