Paige Atwell is completely satisfied with her suburban existence: the carpools, coffee klatches and scheduled sex night with her husband. But when her friend Karen admits to a steamy love affair, Paige is forced to reexamine her life. Is she really content? Or is she merely complacent?

Then Karen is found dead in a pool of blood in her garage and Paige’s quiet life is shaken to its core. Paige doesn’t buy the accident theory Karen’s husband is spinning. And she knows that Karen’s adulterous secret could give the police the motive they need. But Paige can’t destroy her friend’s reputation and turn her into gossip fodder. She realizes her only choice is to investigate Karen’s death herself… a choice that leads her into danger, temptation and a secret so shocking that their quiet suburb will never be the same.

The Secret Desires of a Soccer Mom offers us a darkly funny look at what goes on behind closed doors in the cul-de-sac.

[Hot Deal] Shame – Save 80%

ShameShame
by Alan Russell

Although it’s been many years since the death of his father – an infamous serial killer known as Shame – Caleb Parker still struggles to free himself from his father’s dark shadow. Caleb wishes only for a normal life without being branded a “killer’s son,” but his dreams are shattered when a new string of murders surfaces that are all too reminiscent of Shame’s terrible killings.

When the police label him the prime suspect, Caleb forges an unlikely partnership with true-crime author Elizabeth Line, a writer whose career began when she survived an encounter with Shame and who then went on to document his life – and death. As the body count begins to pile up, Elizabeth and Caleb come to the conclusion that one of them has been targeted by the killer, and a game of cat and mouse begins as they try to uncover the murderer’s identity before becoming his next victims.

Brutal and unapologetic, Shame draws you into the mind of a serial killer with no chance of escape until the last page is turned.

by Meg Cabot

She’s not at all happy about having to give up her pretty pink wall-to-wall carpeting for creaky floorboards and creepy secret passageways – not to mention leaving her modern, state-of-the-art suburban school for a rundown, old-fashioned school just two blocks from her new house.

With a room she’s half-scared to go into, the burden of being “the new girl,” and her old friends all a half-hour car ride away, how will Allie ever learn to fit in?

Crying for Help: The Shocking True Story of a Damaged Girl with a Dark PastCrying for Help: The Shocking True Story of a Damaged Girl with a Dark Past
by Casey Watson

Two weeks after saying farewell to her first foster child, Casey is asked to look after Sophia, a troubled 12-year-old with a sad past. Sophia’s actions are disturbing and provocative and, before long, Casey and her family find themselves in a dark and dangerous situation.

Two years ago Sophia’s mother had a terrible accident. Sophia has been in care ever since.

Right away, Casey feels something isn’t right. Sophia’s a well-developed girl, who looks more like 18 than 12. She only seems to have eyes and ears for men, and treats all women with contempt and disgust. And she has everyone around her jumping through hoops.

Over time, as more details begin to emerge about Sophia’s past, it becomes clear that her behaviour is a front for an early life filled with pain and suffering. But although Casey feels she is gradually breaking through to Sophia and getting her to open up about things she has never spoken about before, her violence is threatening the safety of the whole family, forcing Casey to question whether she can really handle this lost and damaged girl.

Both shocking and inspiring, this true story will shed new light on the extreme and sometimes dangerous nature of foster care.

I Would appreciate something More than Harliquin romances, and Vampires, Free or Paid! Also, I do appreciate *Pixel* but I see too many repeat books.

Diane Dutton Schur January 17, 2013 at 5:53 pm

I rarely see a repeat…and I have been "harvesting" , so to speak, from Pixel for well over a year.

Susan Loftin January 17, 2013 at 6:15 pm

It's not bad having repeat books as there are new members almost daily. If you forget a book and try to get it a second time it will remind you that you already have it so you don't bog your reader down. I read so many books I forget the titles… this is a nice feature. I agree I don't like the vampire type books but hey it's free and I can always so "Thank you, but no thank you" and wait for the next book that interest me.
