The Last Clinic is murder mystery with social satire, set in the deep South.

Beloved evangelical minister, Reverend Jimmy Aldridge is shot while protesting in front of an abortion clinic in Jackson, Mississippi. It’s up to transplanted Yankee hate crimes investigator, Darla Cavannah, to find the killer before the city comes apart at the seams.

Unfortunately, her partner, Detective Tommy Reylander, is a lazy, self-aggrandizing Elvis impersonator and a member of Reverend Jimmy’s church. To make matters worse, Darla has a case of the hots for prime suspect, Dr. Stephen Nicoletti, an OB/GYN with what may be the world’s most sensitive hands.

The search for the killer takes Darla from the genteel northeast Jackson to a raunchy strip club south of town, and to an exclusive society in Natchez dedicated to reenacting the rituals of antebellum manhood. In the end, Darla discovers not only the killer but something far more sinister.

Hawaii is palm trees, black sand and blue water—but for policewoman Lei Texeira, there’s a dark side to paradise.

Lei has overcome a scarred past to make a life for herself as a cop in the sleepy Big Island town of Hilo. On a routine patrol she finds two murdered teenagers—one of whom she’d recently busted. With its echoes of her own past, the murdered girl’s harsh life and tragic death affect Lei deeply. She becomes obsessed—even as the killer is drawn to Lei’s intensity, feeding off her vulnerabilities and toying with her sanity.

Despite her obsession with the case and fear that she’s being stalked, Lei finds herself falling in love for the first time. Steaming volcanoes, black sand beaches and shrouded fern forests are the backdrop to Lei’s quest for answers—and the stalker is closer than she can imagine, as threads of the past tangle in her future. Lei is determined to find the killer—but he knows where to find her first.

In the tempestuous closing years of the twelfth century, the fourteen-year-old Oba Toshiko, daughter of a provincial warlord, enters the women’s quarters of Emperor Go-Shirakawa, her body bartered for favor at court. Toshiko’s talent as a singer of popular songs and her innocence excite the emperor’s lust and the dangerous jealousy of Lady Sanjo. An accidental and forbidden meeting with the noble physician Yamada Sadahira tempts Toshiko’s heart and tests her loyalty to her family. When her enemy strikes, she flees the palace to be with Sadahira.

Impeccably researched, I.J. Parker’s Dream of a Spring Night begins the saga of the Yamada family, of Toshiko and Sadahira, and of the enigmatic adopted son Hachiro. Their fate will play out against the violence and pageantry of the Heike Wars and the fall of the empire.

Darlene, the problem may be you need to go back to the list of free books and click on each one… I get my free bk lists from Facebook, so I click that and it brings up the bk/s (step 2)… then I click on a title and it takes me to Amazon, after I finish here… then I have to go back to the list of bk and start over (step 2)… hope this makes some sense :) … and remember you can always contact Amazon itself.
