The Princess Bride
by William Goldman
Genre: Fantasy
William Goldman’s modern fantasy classic is a simple, exceptional story about quests — for riches, revenge, power, and, of course, true love — that’s thrilling and timeless.
Anyone who lived through the 1980s may find it impossible—inconceivable, even—to equate The Princess Bride with anything other than the sweet, celluloid romance of Westley and Buttercup, but the film is only a fraction of the ingenious storytelling you’ll find in these pages. Rich in character and satire, the novel is set in 1941 and framed cleverly as an “abridged” retelling of a centuries-old tale set in the fabled country of Florin that’s home to “Beasts of all natures and descriptions. Pain. Death. Brave men. Coward men. Strongest men. Chases. Escapes. Lies. Truths. Passions.”

love love love love love love love love this. everyone's seen the movie, and the book just adds more details to an already lovely story
Darren, I am jealous. You are about to read a remarkable and hellaciously funny book for the first time. My first time was 1977 or 78 in a bookstore behind St Matthews Church in Kenosha, WI, and it has been a favorite ever since.
The movie only prepared you a little for what you are going to experience. Enjoy! Wish I could relive my first time…
I'd seen the movie many times but only read the book this last year – hysterical!
WTF?! It was RIGHT THERE on my bookshelf at UofH the entire year we shared a dorm room in 78-79, and you never picked it up and read it? Good lord, man, *I* read all three of the then extant Dragonriders of Pern series because they were on your bookshelf!!!
Kevin, I'm embarrassed to admit this but I'm not even sure where or when I got my copy!! I'd seen it on the shelf for years and finally picked it out and read it. I still don't know how long it was there!
My very favorite book of all time! Everyone should have a copy.
One of my favorite movies, too.
